Gamesley Reserves 3 - Styal Reserves 6

Gamesley Reserves were unable to break their losing start start to the season last night, falling to Styal Reserves 6 - 3.

Gamesley's reserves got off to a poor start and were losing 3 - nil by the end of the first half. Sam Mulruan got one back off a penalty after 54 minutes, however chances of a fightback were dashed not far after that when Styal Reserves made it 4 - 1.

After 60 minutes Tom Burns rekindled the chance of a fightback after making it 4 - 2, but this was again dashed a few minutes later when Styal made it 5 - 2. The fighting spirit continued when after 70 minutes Adam Burns scored off a corner making it 5 - 3, however just before the end Styal got one more, making a final score of 6 - 3.

Gamesley 1 – Styal 2

Gamesley’s second match of the league season got off to a good start with a goal from Tom Briggs after 15 minutes, however things went downhill from there.

The polished performance, which Gamesley delivered in the first half of Saturday’s game didn’t seem to be on the cards for last nights game with quite a few chances going a miss.

Not long before half time Styal made it one all, and the first half finished at one all, with Styal taking a lead in the bad books with one yellow card.

The second half was much the same as the first with Gamesley not being able to make that final connection and score, there were however times when interesting decisions from the referee threatened to cause the game to boil over, with one such incident leading to a second goal for Styal.

A few more missed chances followed, along with an injury forcing the substitution of Shaun Chapman, brought the match to a close at 2 – 1 to Styal, along with 3 yellow cards for Styal and one for Gamesley.

Football News – 13/8/2011

Gamesley’s first team got off to a cracking start for this year’s league campaign with a 5 – 1 win at home to Denton Town FC.

A brilliant first half was set off by Tom Briggs who opened the scoring after 10 minutes; this was then followed on the half hour by a neatly put away penalty taken by Simon Yates, with Mitch Salthouse finishing off the first half scoring by making it 3 nill after 40 minutes.

The second half started off a less polished affair with the summer seeming to show through in terms of fitness, with Gamesley’s goalkeeper Leon Telford being called on several occasions to stop breaks from Denton Town.

After 64 minutes one of Gamesley’s players was brought down in the area, and Michael
Dewhurst got his first goal of the season from the resulting penalty. Gamesley’s last goal came after 87 minutes with a cracking strike from near the corner post by Shaun Chapman.

A lapse in concentration followed with Denton Town’s Aaron Kirk getting a consolation goal in the 90th minute.
